How the number is worked out
Missed calls a week, times the share that were real jobs, times the share you would have won, times what one job is worth, times 50 weeks. Every number in it should be yours.
The two assumptions are there because not every missed call is a lost job. Some are suppliers, wrong numbers or the same customer ringing twice. Some real callers would have gone elsewhere anyway. Set them low and the figure is still worth looking at.
Two caveats. Some callers ring back, and a regular who already trusts you will usually wait. The number is about new callers, the people who have never met you and have the next business one tap away.
Not sure how many you miss? Your phone system's call log will tell you. For scale, Marchex, which analyses calls for large auto service operators, found up to 21% of inbound calls missed or failed and calls 10% or below a healthy rate.
